How do I customize the Kanban board layout?

Last updated: August 29, 2026

You can customize a Kanban issue view by changing its layout, columns, grouping, sort order, and card preview. If the board becomes hard to scan, you can switch the same view to List.

What you can change

  • View type: Switch between Kanban and List from the Layout menu.

  • Columns: In Kanban, choose which field defines the board’s vertical columns.

  • Grouping: Add a second dimension to the board using supported fields or custom fields, such as account, assignee, priority, or status.

  • Sort and preview: Control the order of issues in each group and what appears on each card.

The standard Kanban layout organizes issues by status, so queues such as On you appear as columns of issue cards. When many issues are in On you, they continue to appear as individual cards and the column header shows the count.

If you need to change the order of status columns, go to Settings > Issue Statuses and drag statuses within their bucket.
